Mihoko Wakabayashi trained as a SAORI teacher in Kyoto, Japan. In 2000, Mihoko opened the first-ever registered SAORI studio in the United States. Mihoko enjoys introducing SAORI weaving to individuals and institutions in the community.
Mihoko’s works – scarves, tunics, hats, pouches, bags, t-shirts reverse applique, and wall hangings – are soothing yet whimsical in pattern and design, which people cherish for a lifetime. Her devotion to the SAORI practice unveils each of her work as one-of-a-kind. Her creative practices extend to dyeing, spinning and upcycling.
