Mihoko using special loom attachment to weave with one foot
The Saori Loom

These looms, imported from Japan, have only two pedals, making them easy for anyone to use. Loom attachments are available that enable people with various disabilities to weave. Another special feature of the loom is that one person's work may be removed while still in progress, and another person's put in its place. This allows several people to take turns using the same loom to continue works in progress. A bobbin winder is conveniently attached to the loom itself (see photo at left), making it unnecessary to shift position in order to wind new bobbins as one weaves.
