Services to non-profits, government, & businesses. At low cost, we can help you:

  • Use Saori as a motivating, creative context and gateway for developing skills and knowledge in ALL academic disciplines, including the arts, sciences, social studies, history, mathematics, English Language Arts (reading, writing, literature), and Foreign Languages too!
  • Use shared creative activity: visual arts, performing arts, creative writing, artistic crafts, and more to build community between people with and without disabilities: both within the community and within institutional settings.
  • Develop a more integrated social life and positive identity for people who are isolated or marginalized for any reason.
  • Use Saori to foster community, lower stress, unleash creative thinking, and build confidence within your organization.
  • Link Arts projects to ALL subjects within the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Learning Standards (for  curriculum  development and grant-writing purposes)
Teaching Services and Fees

At the Studio: 18 Winslow St., Worcester, MA

Pre-registration is required for all classes. You may register and begin at any time. Most people take their Course classes at a regular weekly time, but you may work out an individualized schedule, using any of our regular class hours, at no extra cost. All regular classes are 2 hours long.

About Materials Costs

Course fees do not include materials costs, although certain one-time workshops may (check offerings below). Unless specially arranged, we provide all materials. Cost: $1.80/oz., based on the weight of finished projects, which varies. Average for Basic Course: $11

Basic Course: $165 for 6 classes. Learn to set up your own warp colors, and finish 1 or 2 projects.
Advanced Basic Course: $265 for 12 classes (prerequisite: Basic Course) Explore a wealth of techniques, and learn to fashion simple clothing items.
Membership Course: $200 for 12 classes; renewable indefinitely

(prerequisite: Advanced Basic Course) Keep getting coaching from Mihoko and fellow weavers as you uncover your unlimited possibilities and build relationships within our SAORI community!

Trial Class: 2 hours long! Mihoko sets your warp up for you! Take home what you weave! First time only: $20 includes cost of materials. Repeat trials: $27.50 plus cost of materials.

2012 Summer Intensive Weekend Basic Course Sat.-Sun., August 4-5, 2012. Cost: $195. Weekend schedule: Sat. & Sun. 9am-Noon; 1-4pm. Limited to 6 students; your deposit (check/money order to SAORI Worcester) will reserve your space. First come, first served. Need to save on lodging? With advance notice, we may be able to arrange a "home-stay" for you with us or with another volunteer host familiy from our local SAORI community!

Year-round Intensive Basic Courses: Live far from Worcester? Complete our mid-week intensive course within a 48-hour period! We'll work your course around our regular class schedule during almost any week as follows: Tues. 6:30-8:30pm; Wed. 2:30-5:30pm & 6:30-8:30pm; Thurs. 10am-1pm & 3:30-5:30pm. Because 2 of these hours fall outside Mihoko's regular class schedule, tuition for this special course is $190. With advance notice, we may be able to arrange a "home-stay" with us or with another volunteer host familiy from our local SAORI community!

Limited scholarships are available for courses- please ask.

Fiber Arts Technique & Project Workshops: Sewing, Clothing Design, Spinning, Hand-dyeing, & more! 2011 schedule: keep an eye on our Home page & Schedule & Events page for dates!

Parties or Special Group Sessions: Normally scheduled outside regular class schedule hours.  Minimum fee: $150 includes use of up to 5 looms including materials. Additional looms (up to 9) $30 per loom. Fees may vary with the nature of your custom-tailored concept - let's design something that suits your occasion! Activities such as learning games, songs, talks on various topics of interest, etc. can be added!

Off-Site

Boston Workshops: Selected Sundays 1-3pm at The Non-Profit Center, 89 South St. (near South Station). No further workshops scheduled for 2011: keep an eye on our Home page & Schedule & Events page for future dates!
