stART on the street is the largest street art and music festival in New England. It is going to be the 12th year and will be held on Sep. 20th (Sun.) 11am-6pm on Park Ave. between Elm street and Pleasant street. There will be more than 200 booths of artists including local young artists, more than 60 performance artists and many local food vendors.
I am one of few people who have participated from the beginning 12 years ago. It was the first for me to set a booth at a street fair and I even didn't have a tent back then. I brought a couple of looms and invited people to weave and set a table to display my work. Many people got interested in weaving and I enjoyed talking to people at the fair. I am not sure how many artists participated in the first year. Probably they are only 30 or so.
After few years trying different locations and ideas, the fair finally had reached larger audience at the current location several years ago. I really admire the original group of people who founded the festival for their persistence and efforts to overcome many obstacles. I learned a lot from them for keeping working hard toward a dream. Now it became a huge, most popular festival which draws more than 40000 people. Rome is not built in a day. Dreams come true!
When I saw waves of people on the street few years ago, I was about to crying thinking back.
If you have not experienced the festival, please come out to enjoy the vibrant creative energy of Worcester, MA.
